BANGKOK: I first heard the explosion from my room at Dusit Thani hotel.
I had asked for a room facing the Sala Daeng intersection to clearly see and hear the Red Shirts’ noisy protest by the side of the road into Silom.
All the time I had kept the balcony door open even at night to be alerted about the slightest change.
Then came the explosion yesterday. A couple of days ago, The Star photographer Brian Moh rushed down when we heard what seemed like shots and I followed suit.

Japanese businessman Shin Masuda, who runs a massage parlour in the area, said this was the first time he encountered such terror in his ten years living in Thailand.
“Silom is one of the safest places in Bangkok. What has happened is so terrible,” he said.
